Colt Brennan’s Fentanyl Overdose

We learned today of Colt Brennan's death by opioid (fentanyl) overdose - a tragedy that not just took Colt, but also takes an average of 136 lives per day in 2019, and has spiked even further during COVID-19 with overdose rates up 30-50% across the country.

I created a video reaction with 3 strategies for us to all do our part to help save lives:

  1. If you or someone you know is at risk, call the national SAMHSA hotline at 1-800-662-HELP (4357)

  2. Make sure people in need have access to fentanyl test strips - they're available at many health departments across the United States, and will let someone know if their drugs are contaminated with Fentanyl

  3. Talk about addiction early, and address it before it grows into something immediately lethal

I also should add that having naloxone on-hand can also be lifesaving - naloxone is the antidote to an opioid epidemic, reversing it for 30-90 minutes. Naloxone can prevent tragedy long enough for EMTs to arrive, and for someone to get the help they need.
